Oklahoma Paragliding

Paraglider Pilot at Panorama Vista, near Talihina, Oklahoma.Glad you found our site. When you think about paragliding you don’t generally think of a small town in Oklahoma. Talihina is a small village tucked neatly into the beautiful Kiamichi Valley – surrounded by mountains, lakes, streams and forests. Talihina has become a retirement, tourism and recreation hotspot in the Mid and Southwest. We are located at the base of Buffalo Mountain on 10 of the 40+-acre landing field about 7 miles west of Talihina on Route 63.

Paragliding is a relatively new form of Hang Gliding. The wing is a steerable parachute launched by running down a hillside. Flight speed and direction are controlled by pulling or releasing tension on hand held control lines. The wings are lightweight gliders that are easily carried in backpacks. Paragliding is a very pure and seductive method of personal flight. Flight speeds are slow and turbulence represents specific limitations to safe operation of paragliders. Instruction is strictly limited to gentle wind conditions. Industry professionals agree that paragliders are the easiest aircraft to become airborne in yet require the greatest amount of judgment and skill to fly safely due to their being held inflated by the air that they fly through.

Paraglider takes flight!Buffalo Mountain Flight Park is built on the site of the most sought after free-flying destination in the Southwest. Buffalo Mountain has been a popular flight destination for 30 years because of the range’s smooth geography and high altitude allow for pleasant soaring in the most common SSW to SSE wind directions. The farming valley below and immense scale of the range help generate large, cohesive thermals. Nearby are additional sites for East, North, South and Southwest launching. More sites are currently being developed. All our sites are easily accessible by car with short turn-around drives.

Buffalo Mountain Flight Park boasts a country club setting complete with transportation to launch sites, carefully groomed slopes and landing fields with friendly Oklahoma staff to assist you. Whether you want to practice takeoffs and landings all day or launch into a thermal and fly cross-country Buffalo has what you’re looking for.  We have on site facilities for camping with hot showers and toilets. After flying, our tiki bar with sun deck and heated Jacuzzi treats pilots and visitors to evenings of flying tales and fellowship. Swimming, rock climbing, boating, hiking and ATV trails are some of the activities that can make your family and visitors enjoy their days while you take lessons or fly your own glider.
